FYI:I Am Running A Marathon This Weekend!

Hi everyone! It is officially time for me to come clean! I have been keeping a secret for a long time:) I took myself off hold for running the Twin Cities Marathon! I am sure that some of you might have figured that some thing was up when my 20 mile race recap was posted. I know Jill and Heather suspected it....I could tell from the comments that I got and have been getting. My plan was to keep it secret until after the race. I just can't do that....keeping this secret has been torture for me! I ran that 20 miler to see if I could do it and feel confident enough to go the full 26.2! I think that I can do it! I am ready for that challenge and will run on Sunday. I promise that I will run it smart and easy!
This is what I am going to be wearing race day! I really want to let people know that I am running because I hope to see other Minnesota bloggers there:) Oh, and Jeri! There are several members of my running group who are running the Twin Cities 10 mile! If you are reading this and see me on race day, please, send me tons of cow-bell! Unfortunately, not a single person from my family will be cheering me on for my first marathon:( Long story...not getting into it in this blog post. I could use all of the support and positive race vibes that I can get! Can you help a newbie out? This will most likely be my last post until after the race! I hope to have tons of fantastic pictures and a great race recap:)
Minnesota bloggers and running group peeps...please look for me! I would love to see you all! Good luck to everyone running on Sunday!
Happy running, biking, swimming and lifting! Cheers to you all!
Oh, one more thing, bloggers from Vegas are awesome!

  8. also BTW if you are solo and you get to the start early (I know you like to get to the races early:) the backside of the Metrodome will be open and you can grab a spot in the concourse, it might be a little chilly in the morning its a great spot to hangout before dropping of sweat bag and heading for the corrals

Sadly, I'm still out. I'm probably going to start with a friend and drop out at Calhoun and finish the loop around the lake for 7 miles. Get some value for my registration.

Good luck! You'll rock it, even taking it easy.

  33. Good luck, Julie!! I was suppose to be running my first marathon this weekend but didn't get my registration in in time and they closed registration (doubled the number of runners from last year). I will be at said marathon Sunday - not yours :( - and will tell everyone all about it next week.

Race smart! Trust your training! And, as my friend Steve says, respect the distance.

  34. Hi Julie, just to wish you all the best of luck in your first ever marathon. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed mine. Believe me, it was a life-changing experience!
After that awesome performance over 10 miles I'm sure you'll do OK. Give it your best shot, don't be carried away too fast at the start, relax, do your own thing, control the pace and trust the training effect. You've an awful lot of people rooting for you. Go, go, go!

  40. Wow Julie! I am so glad you feel up to it! Best of luck out there. Remember the runner's prayer at mile 22--"Lord if you'll lift them up, I'll put them back down!"

  54. Hi Julie-
Just replying to your msg on my post today. No advise on the course or the run - just remember to breathe in and SMILE!!! its going to be a great day for a run. The wait time in the corral might be a little while so Ill wear a long sleeve cotton shirt and toss it to the side when we start running. Ill have cotton gloves Ill probably pitch at mile 1. Obviously if you havent already looked or studied the elevation chart and course do so. The stretch from Calhoun to Nokomis will be amazing. The route is my favorite (grew up so close to Calhoun and Harriet) and the crowds are fantastic. there's a couple "ups" that are no big deal, the parkway is meandering, Im sure you looked at what happens starting at mi.21 but dont dread it EMBRACE IT. It is awesome. I know you have a lot of people to lean on in the running community. if you have any Q's you want to bounce off me you can email me: drogmn(at)gmail(dot)com
Ill be at the dome in the concourse before 7am. Hopefully around 630.

    Excited for you!
    -Derek

  55. What's next? Gonna tell us that you are indeed attending the pasta dinner???
Crazy. You are crazy. So have a great race, you're clearly ready.
I do believe you'll be cautious, which better mean twice as many pictures as usual.
And I know you said the family attendance situation is a "Long story" but let's be honest: You shouldn't keep the marathon a secret from your family, too. Just hide it from your adoring fans.
    Have a fun race!

Don't forget: once you finish, I want you to run right home & dump "perhaps there's a marathon in my future" from your blogger profile, immediately & with great satisfaction :-)
