I Have Two Big Announcements!!

Well, if you have read to sign you just figured out what my announcement number one is!! I have been waiting for a few days to find out if I was one of the lucky winners of the Grandma's Half Marathon lottery! I signed up for the lotto the first day possible and was really hoping that I would be selected!! I can't even tell you how excited I am:) I can't wait to find out if Heather and Carly will also be running with me!! My college boy goes to the University of Minnesota Duluth so this is kind of special for me!! I also think it will be a beautiful run with Lake Superior to look at through-out the thirteen miles:) Woo hoo, I am a happy girl!!

My next announcement is that I have offically become a St. Cloud River Runner!! I just received my official letter confirming that I am now a member of one of the best running clubs/associations in the state:) The St. Cloud River Runners have so many stellar runners who just rock it every time they run!! I am going to have to drive an hour to join their weekly runs but I think it will be well worth it. I am going to attempt to join the running group at least two times a month. It will be hard to join them on many Saturdays because I have so many road races scheduled on that day. I am hoping by running with them that I will eventually get faster and improve myself as a distance runner:) I am also looking forward to meeting new people and just having a good time!!

This week has been great so far for workout runs:) I ran four miles on Monday, three miles on Tuesday and five miles today!! It has been absolutely gorgeous and the big patches of ice on my running paths are gone!! I am loving it!! For all of my runs my pace has been pretty consistent...somewhere between 8:15 and 9:00 minute miles. I have not gone all gang busters like the other day because sadly my energy level is a little low:(

I would just like to take a minute to welcome any new followers that I have! I just want to say thanks for reading my little blog! I really enjoy and appreciate the comments that I am getting!! Thank you so much:) I hope that everyone enjoys the rest of the week!! Cheers and happy running!!

Also, check out Marcia's blog because she is having a great Kettleworx giveaway:)

  1. Congrats on the Grandma's! All my Minnesota friends (all 3 of them to be exact) have told me that is a must do race. I have never heard of it until they spoke of it. I'm sure you'll have a blast! It sounds fun!

  3. I so wish I had a group or club to run with. I actually am about to check into it. I was thinking I was going to have to go to Nashville this weekend to get some running shoes, but I just found out about a running specialty store in Clarksville, which is only a little over an hour away. In looking at their web site it looks like they have a team. I think I'm gonna ask about it when I'm in there Saturday! Like you, I would have to drive a good ways for a weekly run, but I totally think it would be worth it. If nothing else, the social aspect of it would be nice!!!

Good for you on your runs this week! I haven't run since Sunday. I had every intention of running this afternoon, but the fence guys showed up and fenced in our back yard today, so instead of coming in from work and changing into running clothes, I came in and grabbed the dogs and we all played and ran and wrestled in the back yard until we were all exhausted.

That was more fun anyway. :)

  4. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! On both accounts. You will love the course... it is awesome! They throw a good after party too.

I unfortunately did not get selected for the race but I will most likely be up there cheering and possibly working the finish line.

  5. What a great way to start the month.
I have never run with a group but reading about other people's raving reports makes me wonder if I should not look into local running groups for slooow runners.
    Congrats on winning the lottery.

  11. Well Miss Julie, you are full of excellent, exciting hard-copy news today! Big ole signs and snail mail postage stamped kinda news! That's just about as cool as the news itself :). I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Grandma's so have a blast there and run your heart out! I was selected for a lottery in St. George and after the selection process picked me, I really had a hard time getting there and thought about bailing at one point but one night I had a little chat with myself and said if God gave me the opportunity to win this lottery, it must have been for a reason. I did it; it was my very first ever Boston Qualifier! Good thing I had that chat! And the running club will be super fun to meet new runners; excellent support for Grandma's, too :). Rest up, you're body's telling ya it needs some extra rest this week wtih the lack of mojo. Happy Wednesday evening!! :)

  21. so exciting! This is one I would like to run someday, but I am boycotting because of the no ipod policy. I doubt I will EVER sign up for one that that will not allow my tunes, unless I have friends that PROMISE and Swear to run every step with me. Good Luck!

  22. Congrats on getting in to the half - it really is a great race. I think I will probably end up doing the full just to get up there again this year. Hopefully it won't be as hot as it has been the last 3 years!

  23. CONGRATS & CONGRATS! That is so exciting. Way to go.

  27. Congrats for getting in the race! Always nice to get a chance to run something special.

Running with a group from time to time is a very good idea. Can definitely make you faster and there is always something to learn from someone.

  28. Super Congrats on Grandma's! That one is definitely on my bucket list! You will have a blast. I wish I had a running group! Definitely none around here! Weather is supposed to be awesome the next week! I will be in the cities 3 weekends in a row and hope to get some great runs in down there with some beautiful temps!! Have a great weekend!

  29. Congrats on the lotto win. I can't believe the run group is an hour away, you are one dedicated runner! By-the-way, it's not a small blog that you have, it's a great blog.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Congrats and congrats! Hrd to believe that running is so popular that the only way you can get into some races is by random lottery. That must mean bad news for the health care industry in a few years!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Congrats!!!

Please take time Friday or Saturday to read Weekly Ramblings, I am tossing out a new idea and need some feedback.

Also I sent an email with an interesting fact in reference to your comment you left, I dunno if you it or if it went to your spam folder.

  32. Congrats on getting into Grandma's Half!! How exciting for you. I'm sure you will enjoy the drive, run, drive for your running group.

  33. Congrat's with winning the Lottery!! Even nicer that you'll get to visit with your son & meet up with Carly (she is just sooo funny).

This weather has been incredible, glad you are able to get out and enjoy it!

  34. Nice work - I heard that Grandmas is the best race. YEA for the running group.

BTW, the Chicago marathon doesn't have a half that weekend. They do have a rock and roll half in August that is awesome.

    Happy Running!

  35. Having a group to run with can be helpful in many ways.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well now, someone has had a good week haven't they?!? :) Congrats on your number getting picked for Grandmas; I'm sure we will see great things from you with this race! Whoo hoo!

And congrats on your new running group. Sounds like they are an awesome group of runners!

  37. Those are two pretty big announcements! Good for you girl! And you're running is going great! WAHOO!

    ReplyDelete
  38. That is really good news. A running club helps out so much -- motivation, friends, logistics, etc. Hope it works out well for you!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Very cool! You'll love running with a group. My running club is the very best and I can't imagine doing it without them anymore (you do get spoiled!). Enjoy the experience.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would beg to differ on "the best" running club in the state.

If you ever join us (Upper Midwest Trail Runners) at Afton on any given weekend, you will see why. (come to think of it, I don't think we are really a club)

    Coffee
    Beer
    Getting Lost in the woods.
Impromptu swim in the St. Croix to win a free race entry.
Falling off a log into the water.
Hiding in the bushes at 3am and scaring your fellow runners as they go by.

And how on earth do you have so many people following your blog?

I don't think I could name 43 people who have ever read my blog! And I have been doing it for 3 years!

Hope Grandmas 1/2 goes well. It is a fun weekend, and a great race.

  41. Hi Julie,
I had to leave a comment because you were so nice to welcome new followers. I have read one or two of your posts after getting to your blog from your comment on another blog, I think on Meg Runs.

I'm happy for you on both announcements. It's all pretty cool. I hope you enjoy the running club and have a great time at Grandma's Half!

  42. That is wonderful, way to go!

  43. Congrats on getting into the 1/2, enjoy it.

I saw in your last post about paying full price, if you shop at a Twin Cities running store, check to see if they will give you a discount for the SCRR if not you can get one (usually 15-20%) for being a member of ALARC, MDRA or MN-DRS. It varies, store to store but ask.

  44. 47th! OK, first of all, I thought I had already commented on this post. I thought wrong. Second, I heard this song on the radio yesterday and it's been stuck in my head. Now I need to give you the disclaimer that I'm not trying to serenade you. It's just that I finally forgot about the song, and now it's back stuck inside my head, since your name's Julie:
"Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya love me?
Ah, Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya care?
Julie, Julie, are ya thinkin' of me?
Julie, Julie, will ya still be there?"
So hopefully now it will stay stuck inside your head.
OK, moving on, congrats on being selected to run in the Half. It took me about 10 seconds to read the sign, however. Cool about the running club also. Since it's an hours drive away it must be a great group. Speaking of great, great job with the runs. I didn't know that Minnesota ever got warm enough for the ice to melt, but I'm glad it did and you're running in better conditions. Thanks for your supportive comments on my blog.

  52. You are too cute! I love your sign! Yay for getting in on the race! :)

I just read your half marathon report - you did a great job! I will be running my first half marathon this April in my hometown (Wichita, KS) and then will run my first full marathon in San Diego (Provided I get an all clear on the bone scan Tuesday) on June 6, and my second full in Seattle on June 26. So excited! (Though I am S-L-O-W compared to you. Seriously.)

Gotta love this world of runners and bloggers! Thank you for the support. Can't wait to see where you go from here! Maybe you'll show up in San Diego or Seattle? :)
