Hi everyone! I am sure you are wondering what all the fuss is about. What did Julie do now? Well, I am not sure if I should be super excited or scared to death! Two days ago I went ahead and finally registered for my first marathon! I have registered for the Twin Cities Medtronic Marathon that will take place on October 3, 2010!! This means that I have four months to get my butt in gear and body in shape for the 26.2 miles! I am hoping that October will be a nice time to run and that the temperatures will cooperate. I have no idea what training program to go with. I am open for suggestions.... so feel free to voice your opinions:) I am looking forward to running this particular marathon because so many of my Minnesota blogger friends are also running! Who is all running this you may ask? Well, so far I know that these people are....
DerekMaybe I can talk Beth, Rachel, Nate, Mark, Gregg, La, Mary, Az, Steve, NJ, Matt and Average A to run with us! We could have a huge blogger meet up!
I have been tagged with two awards! First, Sue Mac presented me with the Honest Scrap Award! I was then given the Versatile Blogger Award from Molly! I am supposed to come up with seven random things about myself that you may not know about me.
1. In grade school my nick-name was Motor Mouth:) Yes, I was a bit of a chatty Cathy!
2. I was a total Tom Boy as a young girl. I had rips in my jeans, scratches and bruises everywhere and dirt on my face! I played sports with the neighborhood boys and had a total blast during the summers!
3. I had everyone of my children natural..this means no pain killers! Yes, I was a stupid woman! If I could do it all over again I would take the drugs...at least with the last one:)
4. I met my hubby working at Mills Fleet Farm in St. Cloud. I was eighteen and he was twenty-two! He got crap all of the time about robbing the cradle:) Oh my, we were a cute couple in bright orange .
5. I have never broken a bone and neither have any of my children!
6. I have terrible eye sight. I started wearing glasses in third grade. Unfortunately, my daughter has bad eye sight too.
7. I took care of my grandma when she was dying of cancer. I was lucky to stay with her during her last few days. My cousin Brenda and I were responsible for feeding her. The hospice care provider told us to give her baby food because it was hard for her to chew and swallow. One afternoon we fed her the veggie beef stew. She took one bite and said, "This tastes like shit!" My cousin Brenda said, "Julie made it." I always smile when I think of this and it makes me miss my grandma so. I have fond memories of that beautiful, kind hearted and hardworking woman:)
I am now supposed to tag a few people but if you are looking for something to blog about have at it! This weekend is my first 5k of the season. I am running in the Maple Grove 5k. I am not racing it...I have decided to run it with my daughter Kay. I am so far behind on blogging! I will be catching up sometime tomorrow after work. Happy running, biking, swimming and lifting! Cheers to you! Also welcome all new followers! Please leave me a comment and I will make my way to your blogs:)

Congratulations on signing up for TC Marathon! I'll be running it this year also. I think that is so cool you get to run a 5K with Kay...I hope someday I get to do the same!

That's exciting, congrats! I know you'll train well and do great in the race. Looking forward to following your progress!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on signing up for the marathon and good luck with the 5K!!!
ReplyDeleteYES! You're officially training for a marathon! It's going to be so fun and I'm so excited for you. Congrats on your sweet awards, you deserve each and every one!
ReplyDeleteOooo, JulieA, I am so excited for you first ever marathon! Yvette is doing her's also this fall so the two of you can tag-team about first marathon training and be bff's, perhaps.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love your list and how open and honest you are. Orange jumpsuits - you should totally post a picture of that!! I bet you were adorable. And I believe the Chatty-Cathy, if there is one blogger out there that can out-word me, it's you girl :).
A HUGE hug to you...I hope your day is ending better than earlier. oh and hey, that half in CO in August??? Absolutely PERFECT timing for Twin Cities. Just sayin...
Congrats on signing up that is AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved reading the list about you :)
Okay my comment is gone! If this post 2 times sorry!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on signing up for the race! Awesome.
I loved reading the list about you fun to learn more about you.
So exciting! You're going to do awesome. And you get to run it in the Twin Cities!!!
ReplyDeleteAt some point in my life I want to do a race in Minnesota. I really love reading your race reports!
First of all, I am super excited about your marathon and look forward to your training posts.
ReplyDeleteI love reading posts where someone gets tagged about some little known facts. When I read about you being a tom boy and playing sports with the boys it reminded me of a petite little 8 year old girl that I coached. When I am not coaching tackle football, I coach flag football during the off season. Maya, the girl, was a blessing. She was so easy to coach. She did exactly what I asked her to do. She was athletic and very talented. She used to "burn" the boys all the time. She wanted to join our tackle football team in the worst way, but her mother said no. I ran into her and her dad last week and she asked me to talk to her parents to let her join our tackle football coming up this season! Her dad and I told her that we have to respect mom's wishes. I would have been happy to let her play though, however, I have to admit that I would worry about her getting hit by my neanderthal boys.
That's such exciting news :-)
ReplyDeleteAlso loved reading your list, I love finding new things out about the bloggers whose blogs I love to read!
You will do awesome at your first marathon. I can feel it!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you! You will do great in the marathon! Yay!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are 5 years apart in age and we used to hear the same thing about robbing the cradle. Love your list!
Very exciting news! I know you'll do great and I look forward to following your journey.
ReplyDeleteLoved your list. BTW, my husband is 9 years older than I, he gets tons of abuse from friends about that (it's kinda fun)!
Congratulations on your first marathon. October is the best month for a marathon IMHO! I LOL at your comment to me although I loved it. No one has ever called me tiny. My, how pictures can be deceiving. I weighed soooo much when I had my kids esp. second one (10 pounds) and still weighed a ton for a good long time after. Years and years! I am still not tiny but happy with my weight.
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm so glad you took the plunge and signed up! You'll have a blast.
ReplyDeleteLove your list!
Have a great weekend!
Woohoo! Go Julie...I can't wait to follow along on your Marathon journey! I'm sure you'll be awesome!
ReplyDeleteGreat list...I also went the drug-less route for giving birth...I can't say I regret it, now that it's over :)
Nice! You will do great big sis! Plenty of time to get into marathon shape. Good luck this weekend @ the 5K!
ReplyDeletebest wishes with marathon training, etc!
ReplyDeleteget in julie..we'll soon have you running on the dark side (ultras)
ReplyDeletehal higdon's a good start
but its not rocket science
lsr, tempo run, hill reps..plus a bit of track and closer to the time marathon pace sessions
look forward to hear how the training goes
you'll be great!
Your first marathon...that is just awesome! I get so confused with the mile vs kilometer thing that i'd rather not recommend a training program.:)
ReplyDeleteGreat list! It's great how people so far from me share so much with me. Thank you.
Congratulations on signing up for your first marathon!! That is sooo exciting :)
ReplyDeleteSo excited to follow you through this journey, Julie!!! You are going to do awesome!
ReplyDeleteHow great is that! it is a momentous decision to make and one you will love/hate your self for all the way until that moment you cross the finish line and burst into tears. You will have a blast and I am sure will do well. I look forward to living this exciting time with you!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your number 7--what an honor to care for someone in their final days. I'm sure it meant the world to her to have you there. I also had my first child sans drugs (but with pitocin, yikes). Second baby go around, the pain started and I said bring on the drugs!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on signing up--I had a feeling this was coming!
There is a saying, "Train hard, race easy" and that's what I recommend for the marathon Julie. Find yourself a good plan (try this fella: http://www.training2run.com/html/marathon.html) and trust in it's training effect. Try not to be phased by it, so far as is possible treat it like any other race, just a little bit further. When I lined up for my first marathon a club mate asked "Aren't you nervous?" I wasn't. I'd absolute faith that the training I'd done would get me through it. And it did. The time to let your emotions run loose is after you've done it when a few tears will be shed.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck.
WOOHOO Marathon Training Time!! I am excited for you, you will do great!!
ReplyDeleteI love the list
Have a great weekend!!
Yay, I'm glad you signed up for Twin Cities! Exciting. Good luck with the 5k this weekend.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you! Whatever training plan you pick that is set for a beginner will be fine. Just try to get one that doesn't have you doing more than 2 20 mile runs, more than that in the next 4 months really isn't necessary.
ReplyDeleteYes, I was a stupid woman! You are too funny, woman! LOL...
ReplyDeleteCongrats on signing up for a marathon! I believe this will be a no-brainer for you! It just depends on how fast you want to go :-)
Yay! Julie, I am so excited you are doing the TC!!! It would be so much fun to do a bloggy meet up, we could even run together, how cool would that be? Were your ears ringing on Wednesday, because Wanda and were talking about you! She said Buddy has run with you on a couple of Saturday mornings. Isn't he a hoot??? Are you from St. Cloud originally? Yes, we run on the LF high School track, I know the person who has the key ; )
ReplyDeleteTwin Cities was my first marathon. I'm pretty sure I'm not doing it this year but my wife's going to do the 10 mile. I'll definitely be out there cheering though!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I'm sure you will do awesome at your first mary! It's nice when you know people running...helps a bit in the motivation department.
ReplyDeleteYou a "chatty Cathy"?! I would have never known! ;-)
Congrats on the marathon commitment! It's so much easier to train when you have a goal in sight. Too funny about your grandmother. Reminds me of my mom who passed about 3 years ago...she spent a lot of time in the hospital for probably the last 10 years of her life but was always full of spunk. Everytime my brother and i would tease her, she'd shoot us a bird...even sometimes when she was being wheeled in for surgery. Have an awesome weekend!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, you are gonna do great!!! I really like the list.
ReplyDeleteGood for you to sign up! You will be awesome.
ReplyDeleteYour list was funny, esp. the part about the stew!
of course you're doing a marathon in early oct! it's perfect;)
ReplyDeletehappy friday!
Congrats on signing up for the marathon!! You are going to ROCK IT! You are already strong at the half marathon distance.
ReplyDeleteLOL at your comment about wanting drugs for the last one. I had the drugs for the first and had a natural homebirth with the second. I would do natural again in a heartbeat. LOL at the stew story.
That's so exciting about signing up (and training) for your first full. I'll watch you from afar ... for now.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how many fellow runners you know. I'm insanely jealous!
Congratulations on signing up for your first marathon! I think Twin Cities is a great choice!
ReplyDeleteYou--Chatty Cathy??? NAAAAWWWWW. :) You will amaze yourself in this marathon, and you amaze me and inspire me every time you have another milestone.
ReplyDeleteWOW! That's great news Julie! How exciting to put such a wonderful goal on your "to do list" I can't wait to watch you train for your first marathon, this will be so exciting!
ReplyDeleteHooray for 1st marathons in OCT! ME to! Lets start a club, we will call it "First 26.2 in Oct" I see it now.. :)
ReplyDeleteCool! I love your list! Its so nice to get you know you better :)
ReplyDeleteI was a total tomboy too!
It will be fun to train for a marathon at the same time! Nice to share the pain together! Mine is on October 17th.
Looking forward to the "marathon" journey.
ReplyDeleteRunning with kids is hard. They are too dayum fast! Have fun.
Woohhoooo for signing up for the marathon! I will run my first marathon on October 31 (MCM) and I'm excited to follow your training and to share some experience! :)
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you to run a marathon...not because I have done one...because I have not...but because it will be awesome! You will do awesome!
ReplyDeleteI loved your list of 7 things!
Yay for signing up for your marathon! I'm doing my first one in Oct. too! I still haven't figured out what plan to do either..ugh!
ReplyDeleteLoved your list! I was a total tomboy growing up too!
Good luck in the 5k! I think it's awesome that you're running it with your daughter! Have fun! :)
Congrats on taking the plunge. You know, you've entered the dark side now and it is hard to go back.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on committing to the marathon! Looking forward to the training posts to come! Can't believe you guys have all never broken a bone? That is incredibly fortunate and hope it stays that way!

ReplyDeleteSo excited for you - you will be a marathoner this fall - woo hoo.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend an easy program that basically focuses on getting the long runs in for your first marathon. I have some TNT programs I can mail to you which basically focuses on getting newbies to the starting line so they can finish the race. Let me know if you are interested in one of those.
I have bad eyes too. I had lasik surgery a long time ago and now my eyes are slowly deteriorating again, but I still see so much better today.
First of all, I am totally excited for you that you registered for your marathon!! You can totally do it, I have complete confidence in you. I have only put my September 12 marathon on my sidebar on the blog, I have yet to take the final step and register!
ReplyDeleteI love the story about your Grandma and the stew, that is one great memory.
thanks again for linking my giveaway, and have a great day!
YES!!! That is awesome. Marathons are fun, if not a bit of a pain (literally).
ReplyDeleteSo interesting that you have poor eyesight. I doo too and just realized that I am about out of contacts!! Doh
Congrats on signing up for TC!!! A blogger meet-up would be SO FUN!!! I have not signed up for TC, but I also have not ruled it out. I'm going to wait to see how this marathon treats me and if I actually like the distance ... otherwise, I might just stick to halfs. :) They are more friendly with my schedule and I like not having the busy training-schedule-ruling-my-life commitment the full brings. :) We'll see -- I'll definitely keep you posted. It would be a LOT of fun!!!
ReplyDelete(p/s: I'm using Hal Higdon's Intermediate II Marathon plan and like it so far!)
Hardest part of a first marathon is taking the leap to sign up.
ReplyDelete2nd hardest is the training. Put in the miles, and you will get smiles (after you finish).
I will most likely be at my usual mile 24 spot cheering.
Congrats!! (A little late). So glad to hear you signed up for Twin Cities! I'm still hoping to get into the 10 mile. I wish I had enough time to train for the full...it was a blast last year!
