Hi everyone! Just in case your wondering if I lost it and ran a marathon this weekend...that would be a high negative:) I volunteered for the Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon this morning. This is my volunteer partner Nikki and I right before our duty began...we were attempting to stay warm.
This is the first place runner at the 9.9 mile mark. Nikki and I were traffic controllers for the Hwy 238 crossing in Albany, Minnesota.
Wanda was the first female runner who crossed at our crossing...she was moving fast:)
We were freezing our butts off...seriously...it was cold!
Here is a group of runners that were packed together. Gene and Shannon were looking great...if there are any other SCRRs in this picture, I am sorry. I am still getting to know many of the group's runners.
Deb is looking great...smile on face:)

Here is Wanda right before another crossing.
Nikki and Kalli running together:)
Valerie was looking fantastic and I am so jealous of her perfect running form!
Nikki and I had such a blast cheering for the runners:) We might of been just a little obnoxious at times...well, maybe alot obnoxious but we had so much fun!
This is the biker sweeper dude Kurt.
Renee did awesome and PRd again:)
This is George looking great as he passed by:)
Brain Woods was very upbeat and in a great mood!
Kalli stopped for a photo opportunity after the race. She did amazing too!
Dave also did so great and looked fantastic finishing! I met Dave at two of the 5Ks that I ran with my daughter last year. My daughter will always remember him as the runner who ran the course three times:) One to warm up, one to race and another to cool down!
Brian at the finish.
Shannon finishing strong and fast! This was her first marathon and she did awesome:)
Arvid is about to get a hand shake from Nikki:)
I snapped this one of Gene shortly after he crossed this finish line.
This picture is of Deb and her cheering section:) Wouldn't it be great if we all had this many people show up to cheer us on? I love it!

ReplyDeleteLoved the pics, it sounds like you had a fun day despite the cold! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt looked a tad cold out there, but that only means your volunteering means that much more!
ReplyDeleteYay for volunteers. I need to do it more often, I forget how inspiring it is! Good for you Julie!

ReplyDeleteNice job volunteering. I bet you were awesome cheering for the runners, far from obnoxious. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteHOly Cow. I just noticed you have 155 followers. You had just reached 100. Do you think that is because of your giveaway? I am still trying to reach 100 and it is slow going!
ReplyDeleteSo great that you volunteered for this race! Good report. Happy Mother's Day :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you for volunteering! I need to do that more often. Love all the pix. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteWay to pay it forward by being a volunteer Julie!
ReplyDeleteNice job volunteering! The more obnoxious, the better! I hope you're enjoying a wonderful Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you volunteered...I think it should be "required" that athletes give back by volunteering at a race at least once during the season because if gives you a new appreciation for what goes into orchestrating a race. I volunteered at the LTF tri last year and it was a wonderful experience.
ReplyDeleteHow cool that you volunteered! I guess you couldn't go a weekend without at least being AT a race ;) Awesome pics!
ReplyDeleteIsn't volunteering for races amazing?? Such a good feeling.
ReplyDeleteWanda is a personal friend of mine!!! She is the running mentor I mentioned running this race this weekend. I feel blessed to be able to run with her on Saturday mornings. She told us all on FB that it was her worst marathon ever and she finished in 3:17. She is absolutely amazing : )
ReplyDeleteVolunteers ROCK! Thanks for being out there as a volunteer; I'm sure all the participants appreciated it.
ReplyDeleteVolunteers are awesome, and I love to volunteer too!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time! Yay for volunteering!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! It looks like such a fun day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing this even though I obviously was not there running. I always take time thanking one volunteer for every mile run during a race. fun pix and fun looking friends!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool that you volunteer. I loved the pictures. Among other things, it is one of the reasons I like to visit your site. It really gives a good perspective of event.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day!
Way to give back! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou always have great pictures on your blog!
Happy Mother's Day!
Super pics! It's great to volunteer sometimes and watch the others run as well as giving some time back to running.
ReplyDeleteI love it when people volunteer back to the racing community, Thank you for taking the time to do that.
ReplyDeleteVOLUNTEER! Sweet!!! I am going to IM FL this year to volunteer, and no, I will not be signing up for next years race :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat photo recap! It looks like it's still cold up there. Props to you and your friend for volunteering!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a blast out there!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! I think it's awesome that you volunteered! Woohoo for you! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the pics!!! Way to go on volunteering!!! Looks like a good time minus the cold :)
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of marathon is that? Everybody is smiling? Well, maybe except for Dave. :) Isn't anybody tired?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, it looks like people are having a marvelous time. What would those events be without volunteers?
Very rad pictures!
ReplyDeleteWoman! I about freaked when I read that it was a MARATHON! You had me! Glad you had a great time volunteering - great pictures! Yay for smiling runners!
ReplyDeleteWhy does it look like there's not "trail" in that trail marathon?? And my I say you look stunning in yellow reflective outerwear! :)
ReplyDeleteHow awesome to give back to the running community as a traffic controller and most importantly, a cheer leader! You took some great pictures too!
ReplyDeleteI bet you were a welcome site to many runners out there! I'm sure you motivated them and gave them a smile, oh, and kept them safe from traffic, too! Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteBrrrrrr! I love the pictures, it looked like you all had so much fun whether it was cheering, taking pictures or trying to stay warm.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture...looks cold!
ReplyDeleteThat is so great that you were there to cheer everyone on!
How nice to volunteer. I know after I did for a race or two I had a completely different perspective of racing. I always now try to thank the volunteers on the course when I'm racing.
ReplyDeleteAnd let me check the calendar. It's May isn't it?
Thanks for volunteering Julie! Hopefully I can cheer you on when you run your first marathon. Yes, I just recently figured out how to post pictures. My blog is a little drab compared to yours, youv'e done a great job!
ReplyDeletei am loving all the photos!!!
ReplyDeleteamazing. Sometimes photos tell the story so much better than words ever could.
Thanks for volunteering - we always tell the volunteers at events that they are appreciated! Too bad you still have to wear a coat.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a fun & relaxing race! No major crowds to plow through, and fantastic volunteer support! ;)
ReplyDeleteAND YES!!!! You should totally run the half on June 6!! These are the half marathon pacers: 1:30, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, and 2:30. I say you should go for the 1:30 :P
There will also be other pacers for the full you can follow until the halfers split off, but those pacers will be with you the whole time. Do it, do it, do it! Team Ortho races are SOOO fun!
And yikes ... today WAS brutal. Looks like tomorrow isn't going to be any better either. :(
Have a good week and stay warm! Xoxo
A
ALSO!! (Sorry, I talk so much!!) I just got an email for a pretty fun sounding Inaugural half marathon called Red, White & Boom on July 4th over in Northeast!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mtcmarathon.org/HalfMarathon/index.cfm
Looks like they have pacers (which may actually be good for me)... I'm thinking of doing it. Have you considered?!
Looks like fun! I love all of the pictures.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it was a beautiful day- how cold was it? I would love to volunteer for a race sometime- it would be fun to cheer on all the racers :)!
ReplyDeleteNice pics. The marathon course looks gorgeous! I'd love to run such a pretty course!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun you guys had. Everyone looks so happy but COLD! It was pretty cold here but I think Lake Wobegon had upstate NY beat.
ReplyDeleteGreat race to work and it looks like the runners really had fun.
How nice of you to go out there and help like that! I'm sure all the runners appreciated seeing your smiling face.
ReplyDeleteFor the record--after your comment on my Boston standards post, I was thinking--you totally could qualify. It is well within your reach, so I hope you give it a try sometime soon!
so great of you to volunteer. i try to volunteer for at least one race a year. i think it's so exciting.
ReplyDeletei love all the pictures in your posts!
YAY! I am SO EXCITED for you that you signed up!! Team Ortho races are something else -- it will be so much fun! Maybe I'll see you beforehand!?
ReplyDeleteLet's see... you did a 1:52 last time, right? I would say start with the 1:45 group if you feel like you're ready to push your limits again -- and if the 1:50 group adopts you, you'll still get another another PR!! The course is pretty hilly so please be sure to account for that. I think the 1:50 group would be a GREAT goal for you!
Now I just need to get you to come run with the training group these Saturday mornings ... there are only 3 supported practices left! They provide water and gels ... and sometimes Oreos and Gummi Bears :)
Isn't volunteering fun? So glad you got to do that. Such great pictures of all the great runners too! So inspiring!
ReplyDeleteHope you're have a great week!
Lake Wobegone? Was Garrison Keller there?
ReplyDeleteThanks for volunteering at this race. I had a blast running it!
