The 5K Race That Never Happened!

Hi everyone! It is me MIA and bad blogger Julie:) This past week was a little crazy due to getting back into groove after our trip to San Francisco and wine country. My plans this weekend included a local 5K race. I was going to run the Crystal Frolics 5K with my daughter. The race was scheduled for 8 AM on Saturday morning. I had every intention of running this race! For real:) Well, sadly, it never happened:( I have been running a little ragged for the past few days. Work has been really busy and I have been coming home with headaches and complete exhaustion. I went to bed at 9 PM on Thursday and I fell asleep on Friday at 5:30PM! I slept until 9 PM and ate a bowl of soup. I ended up going right back to bed. I set my alarm for 5:30 and slept right through it! (So did my hubby!) Oh crap! By the time I got up it was 7:30 AM and it was too late to make it to the race. Maybe I just needed to take this weekend off:) My daughter and I ended up going on a four mile run in one of Maple Grove's Park Preserves on Saturday afternoon. It kicked our butts! It was so hot and humid and we were both looking like death:) We toughed it out and finished our challenging and hilly run. I also went out this morning and did a five miler.....this run also kicked my ass:)

Here are a few pictures from my trip.....

San Francisco has such a fantastic Farmer's Market! I really think that Minneapolis has a great one....but...San Fran's puts Minneapolis's to shame! Did I really just type this?

The day that we went to the Golden Gate Bridge it was super foggy but it was so fun to walk around and check things out:) It made me think about all of the runners who would be crossing this bridge today during the San Francisco Marathon!

On the way back from wine country we stopped off at one of my favorite spots in California! The Muir Woods were spectacular and we ended up walking three and a half miles through the park:)
Well, this is all that I have for now:) Happy running, biking, swimming and lifting! Cheers to you all!

  6. How fun to be able to run with your daughter. My mom and I are close, but we can't run together. That must be real special for you!

  12. You definitely needed the rest. Hope you feel better now. Although you missed the 5K you've made it up by your other runs this weekend.

  13. A well deserved rest sounds just what you needed most. Wish I could sleep so long! Look after yourself Julie. RB.

  14. If you sleep like that you needed it. When I feel like that I just sleep and recover. That’s definitely better for the body than the run would have been. Lovely pics! One of my dreams is to visit SF one day.

  15. It seems like your body just needed the rest. Travel can be exhausting even when it doesn't seem like it is, and even a two hour time change can mess with your internal clock.

Your trip photos look gorgeous. I've only been to SF once, and I'd love to go back!

  16. I'd say you definitely needed the rest! It always takes me awhile to recover after traveling. I didn't even travel but I had to take some things easy last week and I definitely needed it and feel back to normal now that I'm rested. Even though the run with your daughter was hard, I'm sure that still made up for missing the 5K!

  17. I guess you needed to sleep! Wow, your kid is beautiful! And how nice it is to run together, what a treat. Cheers, and have a great week (and don't forget to get in as many naps as possible!)!!

  18. great pics again Julie ! But like everyone is saying here - you've got to listen to what the body is saying ! recovery, rest and recuperation are VITAL parts of training and running - never forget it !
    enjoy the week

  25. Fun pictures! The Bay area is my favorite place to run. I did a race right in those Muir Woods! So great - hope you can get back there sometime. Your body was definitely telling you what it needed! Glad you got some rest in as well as a good run. Did you still get your race t-shirt? ;)

  27. Sounds like you needed a rest. You and Kay still got some quality mother/daughter time and that is what's most important!

Yeah...and you think you're behind?! I haven't posted in 2 weeks and don't think I've commented much on any blogs in the same amount of time.

  28. Listen to your body but sometimes we don't want to listen. That rest will give you more strenght. Great pictures.

  29. I sometimes think you get up too early too often, drive too far to train or race, and maybe race more often than you should. You can only do that for so long before the body cries "Enough". I reckon it's telling you to structure more rest breaks or easy days into your running programme. Listen to it.

  30. Take the rest when you need it! What great photos you have Julie. I unfortunately neglected to take the camera with me to my race. I'm sorry. I think that's for the best though because it was so hot/humid and all the runners were struggling so much that everyone would have looked pretty miserable. Have a great week!

  32. Hi, Julie!! I LOVE your San Fran pics!! At this time next Monday, I will be there, unloading my car!! Ahhhh!!! Can't wait to come back (and maybe run the Polar Dash??) for the holidays, though. :) I am going to miss so much about Minneapolis.

Great pictures -- and good for you for resting up, even if you didn't do it intentionally! :)

  34. That's great that you got some sleep that your body obviously needed. And, you still got some run time in with your daughter, so its a win-win! Great pictures from San Fran. I have never been there but its on my list of places I need to get to.!

  36. Its amazing how our bodies will INSIST on taking a breather when its time!

Nice photos of the Bay Area. I used to live in just south of SF in the 80's. The cool morning weather is great for running.

  37. Our bodies always know when we need rest before we do. You must have needed it.

Love the Bay area photos! My mom use to live in that area and I miss visiting.

  38. REST UP, Julie. You sound like you've been having a lot of fun and I hope you can rest some more this week. I LOVED the SF pictures, they reminded me of the run! Wish I had met you there! HUGS, meg

  39. I haven't run in my new Brooks yet but my last pair were Brooks too and I loved them.

I would have bought Brooks in the first place but they were too red (compared to the new ones I've bought) and I wanted shoes with pink and so I ended up with the Asics. I've tried both shoes on that day and although the Asics are great, the Brooks felt better. So I'm happy I have a new pair and I can mix both shoes up.

  40. Agreed! Your body had some sense :-) How much more kick-in can the J-Lo booty take? HA!

  44. Seriously Julie how amazing is their Farmers Market?!?!? Its so freaking awesome I almost fainted it was so great!
I'm glad you listened to your body and didn't race! It'll make the next one that much better :)

  45. The image of you with your daughter is nice :) You posted a particular photo of the Golden Gate Bridge covered with the fog.
I'm sure you enjoyed your trip to San Francisco, wine country and the local 5K race! Have a nice Sunday!

  46. Hi Julie, I'm just re-entering back to reality after my San Fran trip so sorry for the delay. I hope you are now well rested and feeling tons better. Our bodies are wonderful things but sometimes we push them too far and they just shut down.

My friend I stayed with in SF lives about 2 blocks from that Farmer's Market - I agree, it was WAY cool. I wish I had my camera with me. The peaches there were to die for! YUM. And the fog over the bridge never left the entire 5 days I was there. Even on race day. But it was still a cool place.

Hope you're doing well. Big hugs to you!!
