Wow, has it really been one full week since my last post? We have been very busy this past week and it was difficult to find time to post, read blogs and comment. I am so far behind and I promise I will catch up on everyone's blogs when I have a chance:)
I decided to go with Hal Higdon's marathon training guide for my first marathon. I will be following the Intermediate I plan and hope that it will be a good fit for me. It is actually an eighteen week program that I am making a seventeen week plan. I will put in a few minor modifications when needed. This is what my week one looked like....
Sunday....The Team Ortho Half Marathon....13.1 miles.
Monday... cross training, cutting the lawn and an easy one mile run.
Tuesday....a three miler.
Wednesday...off due to Kay's track awards dinner.
Thursday...off due to a friend from works baby shower.
Friday...a eight mile run to make up for two days off.
Saturday....a five mile run.
Sunday....a nine mile run. Yes, I am flipping tired!! I am going to sleep well tonight:)
Today for my nine miler I went out on a new running route. I ventured off to the Fish Lake Park running trails. I was really surprised with how many rolling hills that there were. They kicked my butt! I brought my hydration water belt and two packs of gel. I stopped for a walk break at the four mile point. When I got home after my run and looked at the data in my Garmin I was shocked to see that I actually kept up a 9:10 minute pace!?! Not really sure how this happened:) I felt like I was moving snails pace. I really enjoyed running this new route and will run again in the future.
Like I mentioned earlier Kay had her awards dinner on Wednesday evening. I am so proud of her and am happy to report that she did letter as an eighth grader! Kay also was presented with the Rookie Of The Year award for her jumping:) The coaches all had so many nice things to say about her. I am a proud mama and just had to share this exciting news. Kay is also starting cross country in a few weeks. They start training in the summer so that they are conditioned by the fall. Kay is a sprinter but wants to stay in shape for basketball and thinks that cross country will help her to stay active and focused:)
Next weekend is Grandma's Half Marathon and I can't wait! I will most likely post one more time before I head to Duluth on Friday for the expo:)
Happy running, biking, swimming and lifting! Cheers to all of you!
I will post giveaways soon:)
Here is a picture of Kay with her letter and other award:)

ReplyDeleteI will be in taper mode this week as well. I think it's good timing after these crazy weeks, huh?
Congrats to Kay! What an accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteGreat nine miler today, whew what a week!
I am so very jealous that you are doing Grandma's, I have a lot of friends doing the half and I am kicking myself for not putting my name into the lottery!
Here's to a slower week, have a great one!
Congratulations to your daughter and congrats to you for a full, busy week! I look forward to following you, we're following the same marathon training plan!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a busy but productive week! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter si going to be a heartbreaker!
Julie - Wow, looks like a busy week! I can't wait to hear about Grandmas - I've always wanted to run it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a busy week, i can understand why your tired. Congrats to your daughter!!
ReplyDeleteWow! I am so impressed (and jealous) over how many half marathons you do! Congrats to your daughter! Enjoy your marathon training. I am on week 1 -about to do week 2 of Higdon's intermediate 2 so our weeks will be similar I am sure.
ReplyDeleteThat's great about Kay's letter! I thought about following Hal Higdon, but a friend of mine who just ran Boston for the first time (she did it through a fundraiser for Children's hospital of Boston) gave me her training plan from them to follow. I'm going into my 6th week already, can't believe it!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is gorgeous! Congrats to Kay on all of her accomplishments.
ReplyDeleteI completely forgot your were doing the half at Grandma's - so exciting! It really is a fun race. Good luck, an great job on your first week of TC training.
Kay is amazing and gorgeous! I heard great things about Hal's plan. Good choice:)
ReplyDeleteWow crazy week for sure!
ReplyDeleteYay for Kay! She is awesome and such a cutie!
Congratulations to your daughter...how exciting!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Kay and the proud Mama too. My daughter, also currently an eighth grader, cashed in at the varsity awards dinner here too for track and XC.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Kay can run with you in the summer? Most of her runs should just be base miles. I can't run with my daughter - she is too fast for me.
Enjoy your week.
Congratulations to Kay...what a beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing...all those half-marathons and all that training in between. Have fun with your marathon training plan, mine starts next Sunday :)
Great job on all the running! Congrats to Kay as well.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to rock the marathon with all the half marathons you already have under your belt.
Julie, dear...your daughter looks a lot like you - SOOO adorable!! Congrats on her letter and congrats on your 9:10 9-miler, woohooo!! You're going to do so well in your marathon, cuz you're just so strong and focused! I have to tell you that college girl's stuff is STILL in my living room, only moved to the other side as she attempted to sort it, but failed miserably. Do I just take a match and burn it all or give to GoodWill or what do I do with it??
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, JulieA....you're a true inspiration to me!! xo
Congrats to your daughter on her awards! She is adorable!
ReplyDeleteYay for marathon plans! Even if you are way too speedy for me, it's nice to know that someone else is training in this heat with me.
What a great long run! It's nice when it feels hard and then you see it really wasn't. I am not sure why those seem extra special for me. You are doing so well. I can not wait to see how your marathon training comes along!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your daughter! That is super cool, be very proud! I often find if I take a walk breaks for water and gels on long runs my time at the end is better than I thought. I think the breaks help me recover and run better overall. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your daughter! So exciting!
ReplyDeleteI believe cutting the lawn also qualifies as cross-training!
ReplyDeleteHave fun at Grandma's half marathon!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to both of you...what a week! Have a great race!
ReplyDeleteHey - at least you have an excuse for not running! Mine? World Cup on Saturday, Lakers on Sunday. I'm a bad bad boy!
ReplyDeleteOk first thing- Kay is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

ReplyDeleteWhat a week! Isn't it funny how sometimes you feel slow when really you're going fast?! I'm doing the Hal Higdon plan too, but the novice plan. Have you read his Marathon book? I got it from the library and am enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Kay!
My wife uses the Hal Higdon Intermediate plan too! She loves it and love Hal ... she speaks about him like they are old friends ... actually it is a little creepy!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the training. Nice pace you maintained for your 9 miler! I wish I could do that.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Kay... she's following in her mom's footsteps :)
Congrats to your beautiful daughter. Enjoy your marathon training.
ReplyDeleteIt will be fun reading about your marathon training. Everytime I think of training for the marathon I get this tingling in my left knee!
ReplyDeleteHey, that is great news about Kay. As a coach myself, I can see why her coaches have nothing but praise for her. To letter at the eight grade level is awesome.
What a beautiful daughter you have!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with your workout schedule, in fact I get tired looking at it  I'm not ready to run that far ... yet
I will be following one of Hal Higdon's plans as well. They are so simple! Good luck with the marathon training! I'll be joining you in a few weeks.

Congrats to Kay! She's athletic, motivated and pretty, just like her mom. Nice job on your runs for the week. Good luck at Grandma's this weekend and with your HH training plan. I'll be following you all the way!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your daughter and HOLY COW YOU'RE RUNNING GRANDMA'S HALF!!! Have a safe trip & be careful with all the road construction up there.
ReplyDeleteWhen you're back and thinking about Red White & Boom, are you going to try for 1:50? I really don't know if I'll be able to do it (I think I'm maybe capable of 1:52) -- still debating if I want to try and be completely let down. :P I hope I see you there!!
Compression socks rule! I highly suggest getting a pair! I haven't tried RecoverySock or any other brands, but I am really pleased with CEP. :)
For sure a crazy week congrats to your beautiful daughter!!! I feel like I have been so crazy too, I finally am making the blog rounds!!!!
ReplyDeleteGo JULIE! do great this weekend! May the peaceful mountain treat you wonderfully :)
