A Gorgeous Award and More Info About Me...

Today was a pretty good day:) I got to sleep in until 7 AM and it felt great!! I did the usual cleaning, shopping and was able to get a 6 mile treadmill run in. It was okay, I did my usual ten minute mile pace and watched part of the movie Sixteen Candles. I watched my laps and at the fourth lap or final lap to complete each mile, I kicked it into gear and pushed the speed up to an eight minute mile pace. It felt pretty good:) I am still doing my thirty push-ups and keeping on task with my ab and core work. I really need to start adding miles to my weekly runs. It has been so crazy for us and it will eventually get better once Kay's basketball season ends in about three weeks.
I was given the Gorgeous Blogger Award from my blogger friend Anne!! I was instructed to share six things about myself that my readers maybe wouldn't know. So here you go...six more things about me:)
1. When I was in elemetary school I was the fastest girl in my class. There were also only two boys who were faster than me! Each year I was awarded the Presidential Physical Fitness Award and I still have my patches:) My sixth grade year our class took a bus to another school to participate in the district track meet. I went home with three first place blue ribbons for winning every race that I competed in:)
2. As a Jr. high student I participated in the speech club. I went to State both years for the creative style. The funny thing is....I now get nervous when I have to speak in front of large groups of people. I also got in trouble for talking to much in my classes. I visited with my neighbors way to much:) Most of my teachers were pretty cool and liked me but they just had to gently remind me to shut the heck up every now and then:)
3. My grades as a high school student were pretty average because I was to much of a social butterfly. My first two years of college I held a 4.0 GPA. The class that destroyed my perfect GPA was physics. My first "B". My two favorite classes from college were history and a Native American culture class. My history professor used my papers as examples for his future classes. I also ended up with every point possible in that class plus fifty extra credit points....I was a type A dork:)
4. My husband and I are going to Italy for our 20 year anniversary!!
5. As a teenager I worked as a model in the St. Cloud, Cross Roads Mall and I did runway shows for several stores. When I was twenty-eight I took my oldest son to the Mall of America for his birthday party. I was approached by a New York and Chicago model scout and I was asked to audition for his agency.
6. I am terrified of snakes!! When I was a little girl my grandpa was cutting grass and he ran over a snake with the mower. My dorky cousin picked the gross dead snake up with a stick and tossed it at me...it landed around my neck!!!! Total nervous breakdown!!!
7. I am a terrible swimmer, golfer, math student and computers hate me:)
I am now supposed to pass on this Gorgeous Blogger Award to a few more bloggers....

  1. So you’ve got speed in you! I was never very fast, that’s why I stayed with long distances. I admire you for running on the treadmill like that. It will drive me crazy! High five for still doing the push-ups!

  2. I too am a terrible golfer. I'll have to write about that one day.

  3. Phsyics did me in too. Though one formula was all that it was about, the stupid flipping and twisting that formula I never got.

    I suck at golf too

  4. Julie,

Chick flicks are the best motivators while on the treadmill. I recently watched one too while working out: Gladiator!

I too am a snake-o-phobe and also had an early traumatic experience with one. around your neck?? Ugh!

  11. Hi Julie! Thanks for the award, you are too sweet :) Physics was definitely my downfall in high school. Yick. I didn't even attempt to take it in college! I really want to go to Italy! You guys are going to have such an amazing time!

  12. It will definitely be nice when it gets a bit warmer and the sun stays up longer. We can add many more outside miles! Way to get'er done on the treadmill!! Funny, I made mediocre grades all through high school and into my first year of University, then I made the Dean's or President's list every quarter till I graduated. I seemed to have wised up a bit :-)

  17. My wife is terrified of snakes. She cant see a picture of one without freaking out. Right after we were married, I heard her shriek a blood curdling yell. I literally thought she had discovered a severed hand or something. The cause? A 12 inch garter snake, dead, on our sidewalk. Ummm, that isn't going to hurt you hun!

  18. Such cool stuff about you! Wow, you were fast in six grade? That just proves running is in your blood and you've got talent! No wonder your daughter is good at basketball. She got the speed and quickness from her mom.

My problem is that I never knew about running until five years ago when I ran for the first time! I missed out on all that time...maybe that's why I still have never gotten a ribbon or plaque or trophy at any races yet! I'm keeping one shelf on my bookshelf empty just in case. Haha!

    Have a great day!

  21. I love learning more about you. YOu offer such thoughtful comments to everyone. Must be the social part of you you talk about. That is awesome being approached yet again to model! I must say I would never speak to that cousin again. I hate hate hate snakes and sadly passed that fear on to my daughter. I have told people if I am ever hit by a car and found dead by the road I was probably jumping away from a snake. TG we don't see too many here in Vermont.

  22. Wow Italy sounds wonderful and 20 years is impressive! Here's to many more :)
Thats awesome about being so speedy!

  23. Beautiful pictures!!! Italy?! I'm so jealous!! What an amazing way to celebrate 20yrs of marriage. Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jealous over Italy...but you'll have more fun with the hubby for your anniversary instead of me :) - haha. I don't think you wanna run with me at the state park near me, I see snakes now and then sunning themselves on the bike path. They freak ya out for a bit, especially if they are startled and move, but they're pretty cool. I was an academic geek, too so we have that in common :). And you definitely could still be mall model girl!! Woohooo!!!

  25. Julie, you are SO sweet!! Thank you SO much!

  29. Thanks for sharing. I honestly must say that I saw your pic before reading your blog, and thought to myself "She should be a model." So, why AREN'T you a model, at least part time??

  30. we have a few things in common. Husband & I celebrated our 20th anniversary this past March. Yay for 20th anniversary trips!

I was also on the high school speech team (debate) and get nervous now speaking in front of large audiences. Bizarre, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Congrats on hitting 20 years of marriage! That's pretty uncommon these days. My wife and I will be celebrating 24 years this year.

By the way - if you get a chance to do some trail running you should give it a try. I like it becuase it requires so much more concentration. I'm not incredibly coordinated, so I need to be especially careful!

    Have a great weekend!

  32. This was fun :)

Italy would be SO amazing. My wife and I have said that we're going to do that for 10 - which is only 3.5 years away! Eek!

Yeah, I could get rid of ALL snakes and just be OK with it.

  33. Man, you have great hair. I'm jealous!! I would love to go to Italy. I'm looking at London for the 15 year (I would like to run that marathon) and Greece for 20! I might end up with Fargo and Minneapolis but it's fun to dream!! Love your list-it's great to get to know you a bit!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. But you are going to be awesome at golf soon as I know you are working on it. You are beautiful so I'm not surprised about the modeling. Yes, let's compare race schedules. Hopefully we'll be doing some of the same ones Mine are listed under the race schedule tab, but I'm sure I'll pick up some more road races as the season goes on.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Great facts Julie! I could be your #7 twin. Swimming, golf, math, and computers are not my talents.

    Have a great weekend!

  40. Julie - I'm glad you got in to Grandma's. I didn't - I was worried that might happen because I got in last year. Now I'm thinking I might just run the full . . . we'll see. :)
